Milk and Rehydration

The Milk and Rehydration Study looked at whether milk — a nutrient- and energy-rich beverage — can help children beat the heat.

To do this, we answered the following questions:

  • How well does milk replace body fluid losses following exercise?
  • How well does milk help the body make protein following exercise?

What did this study involve?

The study involved a fitness test and assessment of body composition (muscle and fat). The kids then exercised in the heat for a week to get used to it. After that, they came in for three separate visits. At these visits, the child exercised in the heat and then we gave them a different beverage each time to see which one replaced body fluid losses and helped the body make protein.

What were the results?
