CHEMP PhD student helps organize & deliver ComSciCon Canada 2024!
Doctoral student Elyse Letts was a member of the 2024 Organising Committee for the conference, a national science communication workshop for graduate students, held at McMaster June 14-16th.
Elyse is entering the second year of her PhD under the supervision of Dr. Joyce Obeid, and is involved in several studies focused on improving physical activity and sedentary measurements in toddlers. She has developed a machine learning model that can measure toddler activity, and is planning to expand this into a tool that can be used by anyone who works with young children, including clincians and researchers. In addition to her thesis work with CHEMP, Elyse is currently enjoying a two-term residency at the Sherman Centre for Digital Scholarship at McMaster University.
ComSciConCAN is Canada’s first national science communication workshop for graduate students. This unique professional development program aims to help the next generation of leaders in STEM fields develop the skills needed to communicate their research and ideas to their peers, experts in other fields, policymakers, and the general public. Elyse has been involved with ComSciCon Canada since beginning her graduate studies, and this year took on the role of Internal Director (Finance).
