CHEMP PhD student gets toddler paper published!
First year PhD student, Elyse Letts, has succeeded in having her paper, ‘Investigating the validity of the Ages and Stages Questionnaire to detect gross motor delays in a community sample of toddlers: A cross-sectional study’ published in the journal Early Human Development!
Elyse recently transitioned from the Master’s stream to the PhD under the supervision of Dr. Joyce Obeid. She is working with the data from the iPLAY study to inform machine learning with the goal of using AI to interpret accelerometer data in this and other studies.
Highlights of her paper include:
- Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-3) may quickly assess toddler gross motor skills.
- Peabody Developmental Motor Scales (PDMS) is well established but resource-intensive.
- ASQ-3 gross motor scores are moderate-to-strongly correlated with PDMS scores.
- ASQ-3 may be used at population level to identify toddlers for further screening.
