CHEMP graduate student receives 2022 AbbVie IBD Scholarship!
Master of Science student Samantha (Sam) Morin is a 2022 recipient of the AbbVie IBD grant awarded by Crohn's and Colitis Canada.
TORONTO, Sept. 21, 2022 – Crohn’s and Colitis Canada awarded 15 post-secondary students each with a $5,000 AbbVie IBD Scholarship Program grant, including CHEMP Masters student, Samantha Morin.
Sam didn’t let her diagnosis of Crohn’s disease get in the way of pursuing her goals. Although her life was interrupted by her diagnosis and she had to stop playing sports, she has since been able to return to training. While at the University of Waterloo, Sam founded and led the first Universities Club that connects, supports and advocates for those affected by any chronic disease, including IBD, while volunteering with Crohn’s and Colitis Canada. Sam is currently pursuing her Masters of Science at McMaster University, where her thesis explores the ways in which physical activity can improve the lives of children living with IBD. She plans to continue her education with a PhD in the same field and eventually work in clinical research on IBD. Sam wants everyone living with IBD to know that the disease shouldn’t get in the way of achieving your goals.
