TriFIT

TriFIT Study

Examining the impact of Trikafta therapy over time on health-related Fitness, physIcal activity, and qualiTy of life in pediatric cystic fibrosis.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a chronic health condition that impacts several body systems. Treatment for CF is constantly evolving with the newest therapy being Trikafta®. Early studies have shown Trikafta to be very effective in improving traditional health outcomes in children receiving the therapy. However, few people have investigated how Trikafta impacts the lives of children beginning therapy beyond their clinical health. Our goal is to look beyond the traditional measures and explore how health-related fitness, physical activity, and quality of life are impacted as children begin Trikafta therapy.

What is the study objective?

  • Find out if health-related fitness (body composition, aerobic fitness, and exercise metabolism), physical activity, and quality of life change within the first 6 months of Trikafta therapy.

What does this study involve?

If you volunteer to participate in this study, we will ask your child to complete 3 study visits during their regularly scheduled clinic appointments. As part of the study, we will collect a blood sample, measure body composition, perform 1-2 exercise tests, complete questionnaires, and monitor physical activity.

Who is eligible to participate?

  • Girls and boys aged 2-17 years.
  • Confirmed diagnosis of CF.
  • Starting Trikafta therapy (as determined by their physician).
